YAZD

Yazd is the most important city for old Persian architecture in all of Iran, it's nicknamed "the city of Windcatchers", the typical towers to refresh the rooms of the house. Yazd is also an important city for Zoroastrian community, in the city center there is one of the most important Fire Temple for Zoroastrian religion, one of the old tombs called "the towers of silence" and some pilgrimage destinations.

In the middle of the desert Yazd offers a lot of historical sights and a city center completly pedestrian, where you can discover the bazar, the traditions and the old Persian engineering like the "Yakhchal" and the "Qannat" the old canal that carry the fresh water from the mountains to the desert and the city center.

Around Yazd it's possible also hiking and discovering the land and the desert and some little cities as Abarkuh, Meybod, castels and Caravanserai.

Main sights:

  • Yazd city center: with its widtowers, "Yakhchal" and its pedestrian street the city center of Yazd is the main sight of the area. It's UNESCO heritage, you can walk around, lost yourself around its Bazar and maybe enjoy a tea with the typical Yazd's sweets.
  • Yazd Jame'e Mosque: the 12th-century mosque and it's a fine specimen of Persian architecture. With its 52 meters high, this mosque has the highest entrance in all of Iran, it is richly decorated and is one of the oldest mosques in all of iran.
  • Yazd Zoroastrian Fire Temple Bahram: It is the largest Zoroastrian temple in all of Iran, it is one of the most sacred of this religion.
    Although the building does not have an ancient appearance, the fire inside has been burning since 470 AD.
  • The Towers of Silence: "Dakhme" in Persian, they are the old cimetery for Zoroastrian religion.
  • Chak Chak: It's a holy temple for Zoroastrian religion, in June it's full of pilgrims, it's on a mountain in the middle of the desert.
  • Other sights: The City of Meybod, Ardakan, Taft and Abarkuh, the Saryazd Castle and the beatifull desert .
